V auguste 2015 pritom vtedajší minister životného prostredia Peter Žiga (Smer-SD) avizoval že sanáciu toxickej skládky vo Vrakuni s najväčšou pravdepodobnosťou zabezpečí štát a že sa v tejto veci začalo aj "formálne" konanie o určení povinnej osoby. "Prebehlo odvtedy 14 mesiacov a povinná osoba nie je ani len určená," povedal pre TASR starosta Vrakune Martin Kuruc.
Starosta pritom poukazuje na výsledky rozsiahleho geologického prieskumu, ktorý na skládke prebiehal. Ministerstvo životného prostredia na základe neho minulý rok skonštatovalo, že územie skládky predstavuje významné environmentálne i zdravotné riziko, vyžadujúce si realizáciu sanačných opatrení. Uviedlo, že zdroje pitnej vody na Žitnom ostrove nie sú zatiaľ ohrozené a problém je lokálny, avšak je potrebné ho riešiť. Geologický prieskum zároveň potvrdil dlhodobé podozrenia, že sa priamo na skládke pod povrchom nachádzajú vo vysokej koncentrácii látky ako pesticídy, herbicídy, benzény alebo arzén. Tieto látky sú pre ľudí nebezpečné.
"Zhodli sme sa s našimi miestnymi poslancami, že asi treba urobiť k tomu väčšiu osvetu a ísť pred Úrad vlády SR a vysvetliť to pánom ministrom a premiérovi, že voda je jedným z kľúčových bohatstiev, ktoré máme," vysvetlil starosta, ktorý pripomenul, že mestská časť Vrakuňa už v roku 2002 vydala zákaz používať domové studne na polievanie zeleniny, ovocných stromov a tento zákaz platí dodnes.
Kuruc považuje za divné, že sa doteraz nepodarilo ani len určiť povinnú osobu, ktorá nesie za skládku zodpovednosť, a so sanáciou sa nezačalo. Ako tvrdí, pre riešenie problému sa stretol niekoľkokrát s bývalým ministrom životného prostredia Žigom i bývalým štátnym tajomníkom rezortu Vojtechom Ferenczom. V máji mal stretnutie aj so súčasným ministrom životného prostredia Lászlóom Sólymosom (Most-Híd). "Odvtedy prešlo niekoľko mesiacov a nič sa nedeje, nemáme žiadne informácie," podotkol starosta.
"Nakoľko táto skládka bola legálna, s veľkou pravdepodobnosťou toto konanie po 60 dňoch skončí tak, že bude ako povinná osoba určený štát. To znamená, že bude musieť odstrániť alebo zabezpečiť túto skládku," vysvetlil minulý rok Žiga. Už v januári tohto roka však rezort skonštatoval, že proces určenia povinnej osoby zabrzdili chýbajúce povinné náležitosti od vlastníkov nehnuteľností v lokalite. V auguste tohto roka ministerstvo pre TASR uviedlo, že stále pokračuje konanie o určení povinnej osoby. "Je to komplikovaný proces, a z tohto dôvodu nateraz nie je možné presne odhadnúť termín začiatku sanačných prác," uviedla hovorkyňa rezortu Petra Stano Maťašovská.
V prípade, že povinnou osobou bude štát, sanáciu bude financovať najmä z európskych peňazí v rámci Operačného programu Kvalita životného prostredia. Skládku chce ministerstvo sanovať formou kapsulizácie, ktorá zdroje znečistenia zaizoluje. Práce by mali trvať 18 mesiacov a stáť okolo 20 až 24 miliónov eur. Ešte v roku 2015 pritom ministerstvo predpokladalo, že so sanáciou by sa malo začať v prvom kvartáli tohto roka.
Rozloha skládky, ktorá sa nachádza na území starého Mlynského ramena, na rozhraní bratislavských mestských častí Vrakuňa a Ružinov, je približne 4,65 hektára. Je na nej zhruba 120.000 kubických metrov odpadu, ktorý sa tu vyvážal z chemických závodov v 60. až takmer 80. rokoch minulého storočia.
